Before the Light was written during our sunrise singing circle — an open weekly session where anyone can come and warm up with the day.
The arrangement never rises above a whisper until the final chorus. One acoustic guitar, recorded on the studio porch; a soft choir of six students who had never sung together before that morning; and field recordings of the harbor waking up — halyards, gulls, a distant ferry horn that lands exactly on the downbeat.
It is our anthem for beginners: proof that a voice does not need to be loud to be certain.

From the Song
“Sing it low before the light,
soft enough to keep —
morning only finds the ones
who dare to sing half-asleep.”
soft enough to keep —
morning only finds the ones
who dare to sing half-asleep.”
Sing It at Sunrise.
